What is black cardamom ?

Amomum subulatum, also known as Black cardamom, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Zingiberaceae. A. subulatum is native to the Eastern Himalayas; the main production regions are Eastern Nepal, India and Bhutan. 

The pods (fruits) of big cardamom are large (2-3 cm long), hairy, and brown-black, and contain about 30-50 seeds. The seeds are sticky, but once removed from the pod they soon dry out, and it is these, in either whole or ground form, that are most commonly used.

Black cardamom has a fresh and aromatic aroma. Camphor is easily discernible in its odour. By virtue of the traditional drying procedure over open flames, the spice also acquires a strong smoky flavour. 

Black cardamom is used for stomach disorders and malaria. In the traditional medicine of India, decoction of Amomum subulatum rhizomes is used in the therapy of jaundice.It also has high medicinal value. The decoction of seeds is used as a gargle in infection of teeth and gums. It also improves your appetite and helps in maintaining good heart health.  It also keeps issues of gas and bloating at bay.

Black Cardamom seeds are considered as an antidote to either snake venom of scorpion venom. Ingredients

300ml of water

1/4 teaspoon of black cardamom powder

Method

Combine a 1/4 teaspoon of black cardamom powder and 300ml of water in a small pan.

Heat it until the water reduced to half.Strain the water, add honey to taste.
